Useful details before you book.

View all questions
How close is the studio to Marden Station?

The station is about a 10-minute walk through the village, with direct trains for London and wider Kent.

Is there parking?

Yes. There's quiet on-road parking, and by prior arrangement you're welcome to use the drive โ€” it's shared with the main house, so it just needs a little coordination. Let us know when you'll arrive and we'll sort it.

Food, takeaways and places to eat

Loads of good options within reach โ€” a few of our favourites:

  • Pubs & restaurants โ€” The Unicorn does excellent food; for something top-notch, The Stile Bridge just outside the village is very good; and The West End at the bottom of the village does food too.
  • Indian โ€” Marden Tandoori is our top pick, genuinely excellent. Taj of Kent is another good one. Both are restaurants and do take-out and delivery.
  • Chinese โ€” Sun Kee is a good one that delivers. The Cherry Tree is a local Chinese takeaway in the village โ€” not our first choice, but it does the job.
  • Pizza โ€” Pizza La Rocca brings its excellent pizza van to the village on Saturday evenings, parked in the library car park in the centre.
  • Bakery โ€” on Saturday mornings the Hunton Baker sets up a stall by the village club, opposite the garage โ€” excellent bread, cakes and muffins. There's also a bakery in the village for sandwiches and pastries.
  • Cafรฉ โ€” The Old Post Office Coffee House does great breakfasts and lunches and is a real favourite with cyclists.
Is there air conditioning?

No โ€” but there's a really powerful fan, and with a window at one end and the French doors at the other you can pull a lovely cool draught straight through the studio.

Is it noisy?

Not at all โ€” it's a very quiet spot. About the only thing you might hear is the little birds that gather in the hedge by the balcony.

Can I keep the room dark for a lie-in?

Yes. There are blackout curtains on both the French doors and the window, so you can make it properly dark even on bright summer mornings.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes. There's a safety gate across the top of the studio, and the balcony is completely enclosed and safe. A travel cot is available, and we can provide plug socket covers if you need them.

Is it suitable for older or less mobile guests?

It's an upstairs apartment with a pitched roof, and the shower room is on the floor below โ€” but access between the two is very easy, and most guests have found it works well. Do ask if you'd like us to talk through the layout.

Is it suitable for local work trips?

Yes. It's well placed for Maidstone, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and village-based work, with fast Wi-Fi and a calm space to work from.

Can I work at Pattenden Lane?

Yes โ€” the studio is handy for short work trips to Pattenden Lane and the surrounding business area.

Is there storage for bikes and e-bikes?

Yes โ€” there's secure storage on site for bikes and e-bikes, so you can ride straight out into the lanes and countryside.

How do I get to Hush Heath?

Hush Heath Estate and its vineyard are a short drive away โ€” easy for a tasting or a wander round the grounds, and they run a minibus into and out of the village too. We're happy to point you to the best route.

What's nearby in the village?

Marden has a village store, pubs, a restaurant, a cafe, the sports club and countryside routes all close by.
